Hare and Hounds Inn ACV update
Great news!

We are pleased to announce that our application to Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council (CMBC) has been successful.
The Hare and Hounds Inn is now registered as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) under the Community Right to Bid scheme.

That means, if and when the property is put up for sale, we’ll be given 6 months to put a community bid together. As you’ll be aware, this was significantly not the case when the Hare & Hounds Inn was put up for sale last summer.
Sadly, this cannot be applied retrospectively. But it does strengthen our argument for saving the pub in 2 ways:

TIme now built in to the process for WACA to make a bid
We’re confident we could put together a successful bid to purchase if the current owner put the property up for sale thanks to the level of community support we’re experiencing. We have more than 320 individual objections registered on Calderdale’s planning portal to the Change of Use (CoU) application. And our petition to save the pub currently stands at more than 1,000 signatures.
And the Hare & Hounds Inn is less likely to be of serious interest to a subsequent residential purchaser due to the delay and ongoing complications of selling on a property registered as an ACV.

Old Town’s only pub is now officially an “asset to the community
The second, more powerful implication is that, by registering the Hare and Hounds Inn as an Asset of Community Value, Calderdale Planning department has made a public statement that the Inn is an asset to the community. This has to be as a pub – we can’t see any way that you could argue that a private house would be an asset to the community.
Whilst this ACV process acts independently from the CoU application process, both are managed by CMBC Planning Department according to their own Local Plan policies – it’s certainly a very positive message in our favour!

What happens next?
We’re still waiting for the planning application to be decided – and we currently have no definite timescale for when this might happen.
